Carbonite to backup GoldMine?

Aug 21, 2010 12:23AM PDT

I am a fairly new Carbonite user. Question: I use GoldMine for my CRM, email blasts, etc. When I did a 'test recovery' to another PC, it seems that Carbonite has indeed saved all my info, and can indeed 'give me back' all my data for GoldMine...but how do I get it back 'in' to GoldMine? Help! Thanks.

Goldmine

If I recall Goldmine had more than one system for its data store. To move data to another PC I bet you would have to install Goldmine there and restore to the same user name.

OR you will have to "export" from Goldmine and import it on the other machine.

Thanks, Bob. I did indeed have to reinstall GM to another machine when I did my 'practice run.' (I've got so much data on GM it scares me...) My question is, though, when I do the 'restore' function with Carbonite, it seems to restore everything OK...but I'm not sure where to 'put' all the data files it's giving me back. (Novice user - can you tell?...) I reinstall GM (I'll call it 'the closet'), and Carbonite gives me back all my 'clothes,' 'hangers,' etc. I just don't know how to 'reassemble' them w/in GM. Does that make sense?

thanks - Ben

Is a rather deep subject. Carbonite is still pretty much a restore FILES to your machine. If you move across machines FILES can restore but that does not mean APPLICATIONS will work or not need experts to tell us exactly how to have them use FILES that backup programs have restored.

This is why I feel GOLDMINE should be asked for their backup and restore method and CARBONITE is OK for the files but I would not count on them for much more than my FILES.

Thanks, Bob - I've got an email already out to Carbonite, but...as my kids would say, 'Good luck with that.'..... Thanks again.

Let me summarize this one more time.

Sorry that this is all Greek or Geek.

Find the Goldmine backup/restore feature. Backup that to it's set of files from time to time. Now be sure Carbonite gets those files.

Ok, if we need to restore on another machine we install Goldmine then have Carbonite restore our files and see if the Goldmine comes back. If not we use Goldmine's restore feature and point it to those backup files Goldmine created.

And yes, I wish this was less complicated that making french toast.
