Question

Car touchscreen

Mar 20, 2020 9:35AM PDT

Car touchscreen refuses to boot. Says 'Comparison Failure'.

Wants me to push any key to go to fastboot, but there are no keys to push. Pushing touchscreen doesn't work, pushing dash buttons doesn't work.. hard reset didn't work. Disconnected battery didn't work, I'm at a loss.

Any suggestions? Any hope?

While I don't want to be Captain Obvious here about back to the maker, without make, model etc. it's hard to give any advice or see if there are any manuals or prior discussions. THAT SAID:

My 2014 Leaf SV had a NAV unit failure that was traced to faulty firmware. The car dealer did swap in a new NAV unit that out of warranty was over 4,000 USD (yikes!) When the new NAV unit had the same issue (dead battery overnight) we knew enough by that time to escalate it to Nissan USA which by that time had enough reports to escalate it to Nissan Japan. It took months for a fix to roll out but it's now fixed.

Let's hear what this thing is along with the car make, model, year and if it's in or out of warranty, etc.

2016 Hyundai Sonata

+100k miles, basically all warranties are expired.
Manual was not much help. I did look there first.

That helped but only a little.

Go get the OBD CODES read on this car. There is a code for Comparison Failure and mind you this is stretch but given the cost of NAV units it's worth looking into.

Car makers don't always reveal all so my advice is again, get the OBD codes read and see if a comparison failure code shows up. Get that fixed and hope.

Remember I am still guessing what this unit is. I'm guessing it's a NAV unit. The car came with a simple radio as well. The NAV unit on Ebay looks to be 500USD, the radio is under 99 bucks. You can guess what dealer price is. So again, go get the OBD codes read.
