Resolved Question

Capturing an Image That Is Larger than Computer Screen

Feb 24, 2015 11:25AM PST

My computer info:
Dell Inspiron 620
7.92GB DIMM DDR3
Intel Core i3-2100 CPU @ 310GHz
DRAM 100MHz, 2x 4GB DIMM DDR
Windows 7Home X64
Monitor Dell 19"

Sometimes when i am trying to save an image to my computer, the entire image is larger than my monitor screen, and I must scroll a few inches up and down to see the hidden areas. I know how to use the "Print Screen" button function, but that cuts-off part of the image.
I can't find a key combination, or app that will save the entire image (including "hidden areas") to a file, or any method of capturing the entire image and reducing it to a smaller size, so that can be saved.
Thanks to all reading this and i appreciate any suggestions offered! Mike

Screen Capture Elite in Firefox. I can't remember what version it was approved through but I reworked one of it's files (in the xpi) to remove the version limit so I could continue to use it in the newer versions of Firefox.

You could instead try the add-on called Awesome Screenshot Plus, which looks to do the same.

for whoever took it over from grizzly. If you check his site, it's not there anymore. The newer downloads of that particular one now has a Bing "virus" on it. That's why I didn't suggest he do the same I'd done with the earlier download which didn't have that on it.

Since I'm answering that, I'll also note for anyone interested, if you change the xpi file extension to zip instead, you can open and find the install.rdf file in a text file, change the max version number to something higher than what is current, and it still works, at least till FF28 and maybe beyond. The max version number is just the last one available at the time of download, which then was version 4.

When i click to save it, i get a larger than screen size image which will not save the entire image, including hidden areas, that can be seen on the original by scrolling up or down a little.

what are you talking about
Feb 26, 2015 11:30AM PST

when you right click to save, you are saving the entire image. when you open it in whatever graphic program you have, you can resize it to any size you want. if you need an easy to use image program, give irfanview a try, it is free.

http://www.irfanview.com/

in addition if it is on a webpage, you can press and hold the "ctrl" then tap "-" key to shrink the picture size on screen.

There are many photo edit apps out there
Feb 25, 2015 11:06PM PST

that will allow you to save the image as a .jpg or any format and then resize the image to whatever size you need. Look at CNET's download.com under photo editors and look for one that has resize.

yes, Bob, i have had to be very careful with bundling and homepage auto changes that are in many downloads. One must look very carefully at the tiny faintly printed authorizations and little boxes! Thanx! Mike
