Resolved Question

Cant use computer without sudden visual lag/speedups

Apr 16, 2017 3:28AM PDT

Hello CNET Forums, I've never posted here and have only made an account to find out what is going on with my laptop. I hope you all can help me! Just so you all know, I have very basic knowledge when it comes to technology, and am just not very good at it in general. So if you can help please explain it simply for someone slow like me Blush

I have a ASUS ROG STRIX GL502 laptop, and I've had it about 9 months. Until now Ive been pretty happy even with a few issues, like my right-click popup menu sometimes turning invisible after playing games, and also this screen that has appeared a few times when booting up my computer.

A quick google search told me that other ports(port 0 I believe?) meant that my hard drive was failing, but I have no idea what port 3 meant and more searching told me nothing. I didn't know what to do so I ignored it, but now I wonder if the two issues are connected.

Anyway, the main issue here is that in the last 4 days or so, my computers begun lagging horribly, but only visually. I can click things and type normally (which is what im doing right now. Its very difficult with the constant freezing) but the screen acts like im doing nothing at all (except I can move my mouse normally. That movement has no issues.) There are moments where there are no issues at all, but then it begins to act up again.

This happens when watching videos too. Suddenly the audio keeps going, but the visuals freeze in place and then after a while, they resume as if someone hit the fastforward button until they catch up with the audio again. And then it repeats.

A weird thing ive discovered is that when I press the windows button on my computer to tab out and tab back in, everything works for a brief second. Its all very weird and hard to explain, so I tried taking a (very poorly filmed) video example that I uploaded to twitter because I had no idea how else to share it.

I really have no idea what could be wrong, or what to even do about this situation. I've done a few virus scans but found nothing wrong. I assume I probably havent explained this issue well since I'm not the best at technical lingo, but I'll be happy to try to elaborate if asked. Thank you for reading!

How about opening up " Administrator Command Prompt > chkdsk /f /r , hit enter >you will be asked if you want to run checkdisk on the next reboot , type in yes , enter , than restart.

Checkdisk fixes a bunch of things , it might help you out too....

Re: issues

Since it's only 9 months old, it's a clear warranty issue, especially that hard disk issue. Back to the shop to have it fixed.
Since they'll reinstall the OS on that new hard disk, it could be the lag is solved also. If not, they'll have to do more.

I was hoping not to have to send it in since being without a computer for a while is not ideal, but I guess I'll have to suck it up. Thanks for replying Happy

While a CHDKSK might let you hobble along, it's not a good thing to ignore.

Rebooting my computer helps temporarily but it looks like I will have to send it to professionals. Thanks for the help Happy
