Cant play DVD in Windows Vista

Oct 4, 2007 9:07PM PDT

Hi
I am currently using Windows Vista Home Basic.

Whenever I put a DVD in, a window pop-up will appear: "Windows Media Player cannot play DVD video. Open Display in Control Panel, and then lower your screen resolution and color quality settings. To view the DVD Troubleshooter, click More Information."

I've tried lowering both (screen resolution & color quality settings) but the problem still persists. I've no problems watching VCDs though.

Please help.

Try another player?

You subject title is more or less misleading. It should have been: "Can't play DVD's in Vista with Windows Media Player."

The DVD-drive with my PC came with an OEM-version of Intervideo WinDVD (and a previous one with Cyberlink PowerDVD). Both are alternatives to Windows Media player. What software did your PC come with?

And did you already try the free vlcplayer from http://www.videolan.org/vlc/
