Cant load XP after format

Mar 19, 2004 5:42PM PST

Hi,

I am having problems with installing software after formatting my 2nd pc. I keep getting a blue screen error when I try and install XP. I have change bios settings to default but this has not helped. I have disconnected 1 hard drive and changed them around but the problem still happens. I have run scan disk but it doesnt find any problem with the hard drive.

The PC is a 1.3 athlon with 512mb ram.

I am hoping a pc guru here can help me....

Thanks

get a windows98 boot disk.
set your BIOS to boot from A: and press reset.
run Fdisk and delete all partions.
format C: (not! format C: /sys)
in BIOS setup put your first BIOS option to boot from IDE-0
second option boot from CD
put your xp CD in the drive, press reset and boot with your XP CD
it 'should' install OK....

Boot on the XP CD and delete the existing partition and then create and new one and format through XP.

Some partitions and or formatting XP is just not happy with.

Set the BIOS to boot from the CD first not your HDD as the previos person told you.
If there is a partition and OS on the HDD it will not ask to boot from the CDRom.
