Get yourself a W98SE boot floppy. Boot from it. Use the Fdisk command and remove all partitions. Create a new partition. Format it. You should now have a clean, blank drive. Boot from the XP CD. Start over as if you have a new, blank hard drive. Make sure you have the drivers for all hardware.
I recently bought a used Dell inspirion 8500 laptop with a ubuntu o/s installed. I had installed xp over a ubunta before for a friend on her desktop, but now am having all kinds of problems. I hope that I am giving the info that is needed for someone to help-first what happened was I put the windows xp in the cd drive and the installation started fine. however at 44% of the disk being partioned and formatted I accidently ejected the disk so I started over and again all started just fine...but at 44% it stalled and would'nt go any further...I'm not sure how but the ubunta was no longer there ?? or I could'nt bring it up. I had a disk for ubunta so I reinstalled it. (the original was a "tweaked ubunta" ?? well I have that re-installed but now I cant get the xp installation to start. when I put the disk in and ask for it to boot from the cd-rom drive it still comes up like nothing is in the drive...or like its booting from the hd. I'm not even sure if I partioned the ubunta right or not ?? I just want to get the ubunta OUT OF THE LAPTOP and to have my windows xp installed...can someone out there help ??? Im sure I have not given all the info needed and I apoligize just let me know what info to give and I will gladly respond..and no offense to all the ubunta fans out there but I do not like that o/s at all and just want to load windows. thanks for all that can help
