Question

Can't install Windows 10

Mar 17, 2018 10:38AM PDT

I was given an IBM T40 ThinkPad with Windows 7 Thin PC on it and I cannot upgrade it to Windows 10. I get this message when I try to upgrade using the upgrade tool from the Microsoft website: The language or edition of the version of Windows currently installed on your PC isn't supported by this tool. I get a different error message when I try to boot using the Windows 10 ISO. Does anybody know how to get around this problem? I have a Pentium 1.3 Ghz processor with 2 Gb of RAM and a 32 bit operating system. Thanks.

Is that a Pentium "M"?

If so, you are stuck with W7, or a linux distro.

There are so many models of the T40 that I can't check if yours can't run W10.

Also, it may be possible you can't upgrade and will have to do a clean install.
