Question

Can't Initialize HDD

Jan 27, 2020 7:16AM PST

I tried to start new my laptop with a clean window installation. However I can only install on my 24gb SSD not the HDD (i did try to format it but no use). Now i only have the ssd drive as the C: drive and the HDD just disappear. Checking the Disk management, i saw those unallocated disk partition but unable to initialize it, giving me the Data error (cyclical redundancy check) and a black bar above it instead of blue bar. How do i restore these lost disk partition ? Please help !

Answer
But what is this laptop"?

I would be guessing this is one of those wonder 32GB SSD laptops and the HDD was some USB drive. The missing details mean that I can only write that the usual versions of Windows you find today DO NOT INSTALL ON USB.

As to the HDD that disappeared, it could be dead or subject to user error. Given the lack of details I'll pause here.

Tell more.

Unallocated space means there is NO partition on that space. Unallocated partitions don't exist.
Just make a new one. If no luck with Windows disk manager, try GPARTED from some Linux disc or stick (free to make) or even a GPARTED only disk (free to make).
If still no luck, try a new disk.
