Cant get optical audio to work on a UN55F6400

by josesan311 / April 19, 2014 3:53 AM PDT

Hey guys,

Happy easter!

Im going mad trying to solve this issue. I recently bought a philips home theater hts3538/90 and connected it through my samsung led UN55F6400 through HDMI (ARC).

ARC works fine, Im able to hook up both devices and hear sound when the home theather is on ARC mode.

Since ARC only transfers PCM 2.0 audio I decided to buy a optical audio cable to get DD 5.1 and connect it between the samsung led and the home theater, the thing is Im unable to get any sound when the receiver is set to optical, its like audio isnt being transfered through the optical cable.

I have tested the optical cable by connecting it between my xbox and the home theater and it works so I think its something within my samsung LED.

Should I contact samsung support service? Its real hard to believe the optical port is damaged.

Any help is appreciated!

Thanks!

DD 5.1 might only work on OTA, USB and apps.

And even then setup is less than intuitive. You might have to move to a non-ARC HDMI for the HT system but let me check out the philips home theater hts3538/90.

OK, Samsung may not pass 5.1. Link about that.

Cant get optical audio to work on a UN55F6400 and hts3538/55
by josesan311 / April 19, 2014 7:06 AM PDT

Hi bob,

I really appreciate the fast response, thanks for the help.

I know DD 5.1 is for USB, UTA and apps only. My issue is that I cant hear sound through the optical audio cable, either by using standard PCM or any other format, Im not hearing any audio. The only way I can listen to the tv/apps/usb or anything through my HTS is through ARC.

BTW, I checked the firmware version and its actually hts3538/55 not /90 and also its a home theather not a sound bar, not sure if that makes any difference though.

Any help is appreciated.

I don't know it all but

In this case it's time to call both makers and see if they think these are compatible. If this was me I'd try other optical sources as well.

And just as a check, does the red light show on paper (never look at it directly)?
Sometimes I find some protective cap they didn't remove as well.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
