There are new scripts.
May 31, 2007 5:24AM PDT

That ask for login and such. If you are running noscript or other such things you may not get there.

Stock browsers will be fine.

"Stock" as as-supplied, no addons, etc.

I guess some won't use such things.

Maybe we are missing what you did to your machine?
May 31, 2007 6:29AM PDT

A "stock" setup does fine. If you installed script blockers or such things then I can see an issue. But look at the details you supplied. I'm left to guess (badly.)

The change at download.com is recent.

So until you tell more about what's different from stock or "as supplied" the faster we might find an answer.

What Do You See When You Click On the Link....?
May 31, 2007 9:03AM PDT

...that Bob supplied? It appears like the site is being blocked by a HOSTS file of some type.. Are you running an antispyware program like Spybot Search & Destroy? Are you using a HOSTS file? Either way, check through those types of programs to see if download.com is entered in the file.. Check in the Control Panel-Internet Options-Security tab-Restricted Sites icon-Sites button to see if it's being blocked there.

Hope this helps and let us know more about what you're seeing. (Remember, "I don't know" and "Doesn't Work" doesn't give us any information about what you're seeing.)

Let's dissect where the issue is.
Jun 1, 2007 2:28AM PDT

First test is to use NSLOOKUP.

I open a command window (Start, Run, CMD, enter) and type this.

NSLOOKUP (enter...)

Now I type www.download.com

I get this.

I wonder if you have a popup stopper installed.
Jun 1, 2007 4:13AM PDT

Many settings are suspect here. Such as popup preventors and such.

Try this -> http://portableapps.com/apps/internet/firefox_portable

If it's a browser setting, this standalone browser might tell us.

Remember that a stock install works fine. Any spyware, malware or changed settings will cause this. Since there are too many items for me to ask about I have to ask you to tell me what's different from stock.

In closing, to head off another area in one easy download and fix, run this tool -> http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4372.html

Jun 1, 2007 5:32AM PDT

Send my a HIJACKTHIS log file via the email link at my profile.

As to the email, it has nothing to do with nothing. If you can't get to download.com, this is all the detail I've seen so far. Your descriptions are still very light so I'm working from the (bad?) assumption you are getting no page at all.

Or else they would have told.

The HIJACKTHIS log file to my email (or here) may let me see your settings.
