Cant get into windows or safe mode.....

by Bobby9093 / November 20, 2006 4:04 AM PST

OK, on saturday i decided to install another operating system (win xp pro) on my laptop, i was going to install it on logic drive, i think, and because of that o knew it would not appear in the OS selector upon start up. so i installed Acronis OS Selector so i could choose which one i wanted. after installation it asked me to reboot, so i did, before windows came up acronis OS selector popped up and said "processing, please wait", and that's it, it froze, the mouse stopped moving and that's it, i waited for around 30 minutes, twice. luckily i had a handy knoppix live CD near by and i put that in to my laptop, booted in to it and there was all my files. i cant back them up or move them or name them, even when i put them under my full control. after a days deliberation i decided to use that windows xp pro install disk and do a repair install on my existing install. that worked fine, i rebooted, and acronis OS selector popped up again! i cant get rid of it! after that i went back to knoppix and deleted everything to do with acronis. guess what. still didn't work. and now I'm here with no idea left so any input would be very very helpful.

Here's what's going to happen.

You'll end up backing up what you can't lose with KNOPPIX helping then boot your restore CDs and start over.

If we can't make it to safe mode (all of them) and we don't have the full version of the laptop's OS (only restore CDs) then our choices are limited.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
