Question

Can't connect to Wifi

Apr 1, 2018 8:12PM PDT

I had an older desktop that was connected to wifi. Sometimes it wouldn't connect and I would hit repair and it would work. I had it set to use Windows to configure the wireless network settings instead of using the settings on the NetGear wireless adapter as this worked better. Sometimes I would have to reset it to use Windows wireless settings. Sometimes I would have to disconnect the NetGear adapter and reconnect it. Eventually it always worked. One day it just would not connect to the internet. I tried everything that usually worked but it would not work. The computer said it was connected to wifi and the signal strength was either very good or excellent but when I tried to go to any website or connect to Spotify or anything requiring an internet connection it would not work. So a couple days ago I bought a new all in one PC. While going through the set up process and trying to install the updates I am having the same problem. It says it is connected and the signal strength is excellent but it will not connect to the internet. As I am staying with friends I am unable to try to connect through Ethernet. But I don't understand why I could connect through wifi previously and now can't. I also turned off wifi on a couple devices in the house in case there were too many devices connected (even though there was no problem before) but that did not help. Sorry for the long post but I am really at a loss. Please help!

Since it's their network

You have to ask if they turned on parental controls, any filtering and more. There's nothing wrong about your setup that you told us here but there could be basic issues like the DATE AND TIME is too far off which can create the issue you wrote about.

But when a NEW computer fails, what tells us that it's not a dud PC?

Move your AIO up close to the router......test.

Connect with a short piece of ethernet cable....test.
