Cant connect to the internet with new computer HELP!

Aug 23, 2008 1:46AM PDT

Hi all, ive just bought a new computer with vista pre installed. Ive been trying to connect to the internet but it hasnt been allowing me to, all i seem to get is a local connection and thats it. I rung up my ISP but they said the connection was fine it must be my router and gave me a PID and password??

My router is a Belkin F5D5230-4, ive tried to get into the router by typing in the IP addy on the address bar but nothing comes up, which is not the case when i type it into this computer now (The computer i have changed from). I have a static IP and as far as i no the router is dynamic, i thought setting it to a static IP would help but it doesnt seem to have.

The problem does not lie with the ethernet cable as i had to connect my old com up to see if it was working which it is as im using it now witht the internet working fine.

Im at a total loss and seem to have no where to turn so any help would be fantastic.

Thanks in advance
Joe

Pack and return the new machine.

It's obviously defective since my new HP dv9610us laptop connected without any trouble at all to my router and a free wifi hotspot. It's new so just ask for another one but have them show you the wifi working before you leave the store.

Look at your post and see if all the details are here. Sorry they aren't so consider doing what you do when your internet connection dies. Who do you call?
