Cant connect to school network

Hello I am having trouble connecting my laptop to the wireless network at my school. I am using a HP Pavilion dv6000 with Windows Vista Home Premium. I have the SSID (Network name) and password however it cannot discover the network. Plus, when I try to connect manually it says I have limited connection. It is making my really frustrated because my friends can connect their Ipods/IPhones and their HP laptops to the network but I cannot do the same. Do I need to update the drivers? If not then, what should I do to be able to connect to the Wireless Network?
*Note I am currently trying to find the name of the wireless adapter of this laptop. But if anybody knows please let me know. Thanks

Thank You,

Ask the school's IT people

Ask the school's IT people. Surely they run into this problem on an almost daily basis and can fix it in a couple of minutes.

Take your laptop in when you have a break between classes or some other time when the office is open. If there's not a line, my guess would be a half hour tops to get this fixed based on a couple months I spent working just such a job.

Hi and thank you for replying to my post. Do you know any other way of solving this problem because I am in high school and I don't think I will have time to talk to the IT specialist plus I heard he's not really good. But however I will try to contact him. But if you have anymore suggestion I will greatly appreciate them.

Thank You,

There are many reasons for this ...

and most are easy and quick to fix and range from firewall settings to static vs. dynamic IP addresses.

If the school's IP personnel are difficult to reach most any of the "assistants" in the school's computer lab can get you connected.
