Can't connect to internet

by murrayave / December 3, 2016 4:22 AM PST

No connection when I booted up this morning. Running Win7

-All other network devices OK. Not the network
-Turning off firewalls no effect
- Win7 network diagnostics no help
- Intel Network diagnostics OK
- Can ping but not remote computer
-select ip and dns to automatic

Something is blocking connect but I can't figure out what. Any suggestions appreciated.

Wired or Wireless?
by Grif Thomas Forum moderator / December 3, 2016 11:36 AM PST

If your computer is the only wireless device on the network, try turning off the router/modem, wait a couple of minutes, then turn it back on again. Sometimes, this will fix the wireless ability of the router/modem. Also if wireless, try checking the driver in Device Manager? Maybe reinstalling an updated version from the computer manufacturer, or the wireless adapter manufacturer's website will get it up and running.

If wired, have you tried a different ethernet cable, or checking Device Manager to make sure there are no driver problems with it.

And with either type of connection, malware can cause such issues also. Click on the link below and follow all of the steps, in the order given, to scan for malware:

Since your issue is probably slightly different than the original poster, it gets confusing when answering two different topics in the same thread. During your thread starter, be sure to give us more information about your computer, the type of internet connection you're using, and anything else that would help us narrow down the problem. The more information you give us, the better informed our answer will be.

Hope this helps.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
