Cant change sound

Apr 30, 2007 3:48AM PDT

I dont know why, but ever since I've had XP, I've been unable to change the login sound. I saved a wav file in the same location as the default ones. I've applied the sound. But when I login, the default sound plays. I go back to the control panel it and says my sound should be set...

Anyone able to help?

Thanks,

You didn't detail your change sequence so this may help.
Select Control Panel - Sound & Audio Devices - Sounds - Start Windows - Browse - (New Sound) - OK - Apply - OK - Close Control Panel
I used (notify.wav) for a test and it worked on a Boot or a return from Hibernation. Bob G

I also have the same problem. I changed the windows start-up sound in mum's laptop no worries, but when I tried to do the same on our PC it just won't actually change the sound. That start-up sound is the worst sound! Especially if someone has left the speakers up loud. I've tried everything as is written above many times and my conclusion is that the settings just are not functioning properly. I tried hitting my computer but that just made me angrier!

You have to change the event called 'Start Windows' rather than the one called 'Windows Logon' Same for 'End Windows' How stupid is that! Only Bill Gates himself could have concieved that one. It cost me 2.5 hours man I hate computers!

when someone solves his own problem and then posts back on it. Saves lots of time that could be used attending to someone else's troubles. Three cheers to you! - Amos
