Question

Can't access Yahoo

by suznewbie / December 17, 2016 1:11 PM PST

For the past 3 days, I can't get to any Yahoo sites from my desktop PC running Windows 7 using either Chrome or Explorer. I get an error that says This site can’t be reached. us-mg6.mail.yahoo.com took too long to respond.

But Yahoo sites load fine on my laptop through my home wireless network and work desktop computer.

I have tried:
Restarting the computer
Uninstalling and Reinstalling Chrome
Deleting cache and cookies
System Mechanic scan
Ad-Aware scan
Malwarebytes Anti Malware scan.

I have no idea what else to do. Any suggestions are welcome. I'm not a techie, so please give me advice as is you're speaking to a 60 year old housewife. Thanks.

go to yahoo.com or news.yahoo.com and see if you can sign in from there. once you sign in, there should be a link to access your email.

also try another browser. this will show if the problem could be something other than a login issue.

I reset Chrome - didn't fix the problem.
I did the DNS flush - didn't fix the problem, but it did change something. Now I can get into Yahoo.com, but not into any other Yahoo site. I can't get my email. Can't even get to the log in page.

Any other suggestions?

1. My host file looks fine, I think.
2. I'm using Norton 360.
3. I'll try Grif's suggestions. May take some time.

Thanks.

R. Proffitt, you are a super genius, and so is Grif. Grif's advice finally solved the issue.

The only problem is that Norton won't let Unhide open on my computer. It keeps deleting it before it can run. Do you think it's okay if I skip that step?

And your PC is working OK, then skip that step.

Norton and many apps may report these tools as suspect. Sorry if I keep it short here but these are power tools and suites may yelp or block.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
