Question

Cant able to stream videos to LG LM8600 using media servers

Jun 7, 2013 4:50AM PDT

Hi All,

I am not able to stream any videos to LG LM8600 tv, i tried imediashare and twonky beam so far in ipad2 and iphone 4s but no luck. Both the apps are detecting my TV but not able to play the videos directly.

This TV is also a DLNA certified one with DMR

Let me know if any one succeed in using those apps with LG smart tv.

Answer
No.

But I wonder if the content is encoded in a way that the LG will play such. Start with a DLNA server in your PC first. Usually you find an encoding issue there as the encoding was never standardized and the in fighting (patents galore) mean it won't end soon.

Try XBMC as a server on the PC.

I tried one of the DLNA server by the name PLEX from the PC and the TV showed me the folders i shared through plex in All Shared section when i played those videos it played almost all formats of video files.

I even tried connecting to Segate GoFlex wifi hard disk network and it showed me the content of the hard disk from there also it played all the video formats i have

I am looking at some thing which will play automatically if I play from iPad or iPhone, My friends have samsung smart tv's and in them the videos are getting played directly once we select any videos from those apps.
the LG tv i have is having all technologies which are there in my friends tv's but even though its unable to stream the media directly.
I tried all the settings even kept the AutoPlay mode in the TV to on.

I will try XMBC app and check if it has a feature like Airplay which i am looking for.

From iPod/pad/phone?

The only unified player I know of is the Apple TV. You can imagine Apple may have some interest in not playing nice with DLNA.

And to get that content on your iDevice it likely was transformed (mangled?) to some encoding so it will play on the iDevice so we're back to encoding again.

Oh, and Apple is working on a full up TV so you bet what you want will be available to all faithful.

Answer
Figured out the solution finally

Thanks Proffitt for analysing the issue. Finally with lot of trail and errrors i got the solution and made both twonky beam and imediashare work with my lg tv.

I was trying to use those apps when the tv was in smart mode at the home screen. Those apps are working fine when the tv is in any one of the input modes like hdmi mode or cable made.
