Canoon cameras with Lion

Oct 23, 2011 11:32PM PDT

I upgrades my iMac when Lion was first available. It is a 2007 iMac with 4 Gb RAM. I can not connect my Canon XTi or my Canon G2 to Aperture 2.1 or iPhoto. Both worked before I updated the OS. Canon does not have any new drivers and states that no drivers are required. I am having to use a Windows machine to get my photos. Any ideas??

What happens when you connect your Canon camera to your iMac?

What happens if you launch iPhoto first and then connect the camera?

Have you done all the necessary software updates for both Lion, now 10.7.2, and for iPhoto?

Does software update show anything when you run it?

Canon and Lion

I have updated Aperture and Lion. I have tried launching Aperture before I hook up the camera and I have hooked up the camera and then launched Aperture. Same with iPhoto. I can not see either Canon Camera in Finder or the two photo programs. I am running Lion 7.2 and I am current on Aple Software Update (last night).

Do you know anyone with a Mac running 10.7 that you could try your camera on?

Unfortunately No I don't. I live over an hour away from an Apple Store and I am not sure they could help. That is why I am turning to this forum. Happy

usb problem with Lion
Oct 27, 2011 11:09AM PDT

I believe the problem is with the way Lion handles the USB ports. I have a Delorme GPS with the same problem, it mounts in finder with 10.6 and with Windows 7 running under VMware, but not with the iMac running 10.7. This is the same machine that hosts the VMware virtual machine running Windows 7 that works. Delorme confirms that the problem is the way its USB implementation works with Lion, but don't have a fix. I have also seen other internet reports that some USB devices that worked with 10.6 don't work with 10.7.

That makes sense. It is the sort of problem I have come to expect form Apple. I am sure they will get around to fixing it some day, or year.
