When I went to record my daughter's birthday party, the only think I could record was the sound. There is no image on the LCD nor when you look in the viewfinder (and yes, the lens cap was off 
). Not technically savy on camcorders, any suggestions?

Nope, nothing at all. When I go to play it back, all you hear is the sound of what was recorded, no video.
