Canon Vixia HV30 video capture to 13' MacBook w/o Firewire

Jul 3, 2009 8:43AM PDT

I have a Canon Vixia HV30 and unfortunately I also have 13' MacBook w/o a Firewire port. I was one of the unlucky people that bought the MacBook when Apple decided to quietly do away with the Firewire port. I want to capture video to edit on iMovie or Final Cut Express on the MacBook. If anyone has dealt with this issue or knows what I can do, please I am desperate. What are my options? HELP!!!

The only way I know of

is to get another computer with a working firewire port. Best if there is an external drive with that other (lets call it Mac #2).

Import the video with iMovie or FinalCut using Mac #2 - easiest is if the iMovie or FinalCut versions are the same. Save the video project file to the external drive. When the file is all imported, shut down Mac #2, disconnect the external drive, connect it to your MacBook and start up the computer and the external drive... edit.

USB will not work. USB-to-firewire cable/converter/adapter/hub things won't work... Neither iMovie nor FinalCut will recognized USB as a method to import DV or HDV format video.

No.

Not those made between October 2008 and June 2009.

No Firewire. No expansion slot.

Mabooks before and after that have a firewire port.
