Question

Canon VIXIA HFS10 not recognized by Windows 7??

Sep 27, 2011 3:53PM PDT

Please Help!I recently purchased a new HP desktop with Windows 7 with the sole purpose of editing video of my daughter for college coaches.
However, when I plug in my camera via USB it is only recognized as a "mass storage" and it says this device cannot start (Code 10).
My old slow desktop with XP had no problem recognizing the camera, it just couldnt process the video.
I have looked everywhere for help. I found that on the windows website it says my camera is not compatible with Windows 7, but then I find posts of how people using Windows 7 love this camera and seem to be having no problems!
Canon does not have a driver update for the camera.
I have resorted to using SD cards, which I can import to my Adobe Premiere with no problem, but the video quality is horrible from them!
Please please help!

If you installed the ZoomBrowser and if the video was ok on the XP machine.

I find folk importing content to the old Standard Definition Adobe Premiere and having the same complaint.

Standard Definition Adobe Premiere?

Thank you for your response.

I did not use the Zoom Browser in the old XP machine. The video would automatically load into Adobe Premiere Elements 8 when I opened it.

I did load the Zoom Browser in the Windows 7 machine after the difficulty reading the camera but it did not help. I tried opening the Zoom Browser and browsing to the camera, but it does not show up in "my computer". It only shows up when looking in "hardward devices". Then it shows "video camera" but the driver says "mass storage" and I can't open it.

My main concern is just getting the video off the built in HD of the camera. If I need new software so be it. I just don't understand why when my camera is hooked up the computer acknowledge that it's there. I feel like I must be missing something very obvious!

Thank you again for your time!

OK, now with the version checked and a little more.

I think you want to try the rear USB ports next.

Front USB ports are notoriously troublesome.

The video quality on the SD card should have been the same. But I am not there to see why it dropped.
