Question

Canon Vixia HF-R100 auto-shutoff question

Jul 8, 2011 4:13AM PDT

Hi,

Looking at buying a Canon Vixia HF-R100 on sale for $250 but I have a concern.
One of the ways we'd like to use this is to create a live video feed to a projector in a relatively low-light gallery/club situation on a very low budget. We'll have a spotlight on the performer so the low-light isn't a huge concern, but having the camcorder shut off automatically in the middle of a performance IS a big concern.

I've been reading the manual and I can't figure out whether there's a way to completely disable auto-shutoff so the camera will keep feeding the video to the projector for as long as we like - we don't need it to be recording - just feeding video. Anyone know if this is possible?

We have an old Sony Digital8 camcorder that we tried to use and it will stay in standby for ever as long as there's no tape in it, but after a few minutes it starts to run through a "here's all the cool things this machine can do" display over the image so it's unusable.

Thanks!

Al

Most consumer models do that. It's no bug and by design. You should look to CCTV type cameras next.
