The "XP PRO AMD" brings up issues that most won't handle with ease. XP may or may not install the USB port drivers or filters and the result is some items may do exactly as you wrote and flumox the end user.

Your system supplier should help install whatever motherboard and USB drivers that are needed to make this work IF you are saying the scanner works on other Windows XP based machines.

In closing, the site http://www.usbman.com could be helpful, but without the make/model of the AMD motherboard I have to let you research which page to read.

Have you tried the wizard at Control Panel>Scanners and Cameras -Add scanner ? Is the model listed ? After installing, you have to 'Refresh' , so that the icon of your scanner appears at the Scanner/Camera folder .

Princhaggis,

Have you tried a different USB cable. They can go "bad".

I have found problems with scanners that did an infective job at uninstalling the Twain drivers. Make sure to uninstall all scanner software from the computer, then search for the Twain drivers and remove them manually.

Canon has a specific instruction for uninstalling the software which uses the installation CD to unintall. Here it is at the link below:

Error message "Cannot communicate with scanner.

Hope this helps.

Meet the drop-resistant Moto Z2 Force

The Moto Z2 Force is really thin, with a fast processor and great battery life. It can survive drops without shattering.
