Canon SD400

Mar 23, 2005 5:10AM PST

I am considering the SD400. I had purchased the Sony T33, but I find the image-quality to be rather "soft" and not as sharp as the Canon S500 that I used to have.

Does anybody have any user or editorial information on the SD400? I know it won't be released by Amazon for two more days. I heard that the LCD on the SD300 cracked often, and I was wondering if the SD400 had that same problem.

Go for SD500

I've not seen SD400, but tested on SD500. Canon DIGIC II really plays a great deal. The noise is much lower than the previous IXUS S500 I had when I placed the taken pictures on my screen. I'm not sure about the sales price, but quite reasonable not too expensive. Try SD500 at your nearby dealer.

sd500 is too much camera for me

i like the size of the sd400 as compared to the sd500. also, i really don't need the 7.2 megapixels that the sd500 offers. does the sd400 use the same DIGIC II?

I own the SD400

It's one cool camera. Ability to focus, zoom and reproduce colors are excellent. This is my first digicam and I'm happy with the 5.0 mega pixel the SD400 offers. One thing I would quibble with though is that the camera is small and light; I initially had trouble taking pictures without shaking the camera. But with practice/tripod, you can avoid this. The continuous shooting mode is also awesome. Takes 2-plus frames per second, and will go on until you fill up your memory card.

Are you concerned about the battery life and need to exchange batteries? Is it possible to use non rechargables with this camera?

Rechargable battery?
May 27, 2005 5:04PM PDT

Most of the cameras I have purchased come with rechargable LiIon batteries, and yes the charger is included as well. I'm sure the salesman can tell you if the camera comes with these items. As for the cracked LCD screen, that can happen to any camera and the owner/user is completely at fault. What can you expect if you throw the camera in a bag which has your house keys, screwdrivers and other sharp objects? If you take reasonably good care of your camera there is no reason why the LCD should crack. Buy an inexpensive camera bag to protect it if need be.
