Canon SD1100is issue connecting to pc

by rcolburn69 / March 1, 2009 12:26 AM PST

I bought my wife a Canon SD1100is back in October for her birthday. It's a great little camera and it works just fine for the kind of pictures she takes. However, I tried to copy the pictures from the camera to my Windows XP pro PC the other weekend and could not get the PC to recongnize the camera. It will show as a "digital camera" under my computer when I plug it into the PC but when I open the folder there aren't any pictures. I did make the mistake of just plugging the camera into the PC before installing the software. I've tried un-installing the software but that didn't do any good. I ended up pulling the SD card out of the camera to copy the pictures to the PC but I'd much rather be able to just plug the camera in to my PC via the USB cable and copy the pictures that way. Has anyone else had this problem? Any thoughts on fixing it?

I never use the software that comes with a camera, I use a card reader.

But here is something to try:
Disconnect the USB cable from the camera.
Put the camera in Playback mode (the mode you use for reviewing the pictures).
Make sure the camera is powered-on and then
connect the USB cable to the camera.

I figured it out, I don't want to use a card reader either. For whatever reason the camera doesn't like the USB port I was using. When I tried a different port it worked just fine.

I have heard of others who had marginal USB ports.
There have been reports about some Dell computers with USB ports that could not support devices that pull high current.

Good to hear that you are back in business.

Not a Dell

I thought it was odd but I'm glad it was an easy fix. My PC is a home built, not a Dell but this is the first USB device that wouldn't work with the USB ports that are on the front of the PC.
