Canon SD 800 IS or 850 IS?

May 22, 2007 8:32AM PDT

I have been researching digital cameras for months now and have finally narrowed it down to something in the Powershot SD series. Now I need some advice: Should I go ahead and buy the SD 800 or wait until the 850 comes out?

I know the 850 is actually an upgrade from the SD 700, but I noticed that the 700 got better reviews than the 800. Obviously, I'm not going to invest in the 700 when the release of its newer version is just around the corner, so that's out of the question.

So what do you think, is the 850 going to be that much better than the 800 in terms of improvements over the 700? I just realized how confusing this thread must seem to anyone reading it. Any advice would be great.

When will the 850IS be released?
May 24, 2007 12:32AM PDT

I have been going back and forth between the 800 IS and the 750, now that I see an 850 IS will be released, I think I want this one. When will it be available for purchase? I leave for vacation a month from today, and would love to get a new camera for the trip.

That would be great if it shipped that early. The only bad thing is I know it's going to be about $350 if not more. I'm going to check out Ebay after its released. Those power sellers always seem to get really crazy hookups. Otherwise I'm thinking about just buying one the 700. I feel like I've heard too many negative things about the 850.

I meant the 800. I've heard negative things about the 800, not the 850.

Amazon has a really good price matching policy, where if you buy directly from Amazon --not one of their authorized partners-- and the price goes down within 30 days of purchase (which it usually does after first being released) then you send them an email and they will reimburse you the difference.
