General discussion

canon s90

Nov 10, 2009 11:07AM PST

Hey guys, always enjoy cnet digital imaging news and reviews.

I am looking at getting a new compact camera, but my biggest need is low-light ability (yes i know this is contradictory, but have to have something that can fit in my pocket). I would also like as much manual control as possible.

Looking into my options, I have heard a lot of praise about the canon s90, and playing with it in the store, was really digging the controls. Yet I was sad to see that you guys havn't reviewed it yet.

Any plans to give a formal review this camera soon, or do you have any non-official opinion of it yet?

thanks a bunch,

Dan J

a comment or 2 about the Canon S90

I am a prelance photographer among other things and I was looking for a pocket size camera as a second choice to my Canon Rebel Xti . Sometimes the DSLR is just the wrong choice and a smaller less conspicuous camera is a better fit. The Canon S90 has filled the bill more than a few times. It produces excellent quality photos in low or moderate light conditions, and it has a well organized and easily accesible features and controls. This camera has a control ring (I assigned focal length) and a shortcut button (I assigned ISO setting) that makes it very flexible on the fly.

A small well constructed camera that provides the option for RAW photos is a rarity.

All the positive talk you have been hearing about this camera is true. A great little camera for the serious amateur or a sidekick for the professional. I give the Canon S90 strong marks all around.
