How about we complicate your decision just a bit.
Canon has announced the S2-IS which is not available yet, but Amazon.com says that it will be ready for shipping on June 30 for $500.
Here is a specifications comparison of the S2-IS and the Z740.

I wanted a camera with a nice zoom and have narrowed it down to these 2. I'm a novice, so the Kodak is appealing because of its ease of use. I also like the grip, lighter weight, and large, hi-res LCD. However the Canon has image stabilization (which is important because I cant hold anything still), and I trust the brand more to produce high quality pics. Also, I'm not sure what to make of the megapixel factor. The Kodak is 5 while the Canon 3.2 I'm not interested in photo editing or making large prints (though it might be nice once I learn more about photography). I'm really just looking for a camera to take nice pictures to save for myself and send to family and friends during my summer travels. Any thoughts between the two models, or other suggestions?
