Then go to Best Buy and ask to test the flashes with your camera in tow. Just say you are wanting to see the difference in how effective the external flash is. I really doubt that the problem is with internal trigger. The pop up, most likely, just went out.
The popup flash on my Canon Rebel XTi stopped firing about a yr ago - it pops up but doesn't fire. Locals would "look" @ for $120 so I finally decided just to get external.
I have a Canon 430ex II ordered and on the way - now I'm worried - should the external work even if the internal/pop-up does not fire? I was told this on another board:
"Providing there is no failure in the flash electrical circuit and power is available at the hot shoe it should be fine"
So that is my next question, is there a way for me to determine if I have electrical problems/power to the hot shoe without actually opening the 430ex II (when it arrives) and trying, or taking to the shop and paying $$$$$ for them to 'look' at it?
The internal flash pops up with no problem, but that's it - no charging sound (I remember it from the past), no error code, nothing.
Thanks so much in advance!
