Canon Powershot A75 USB problems

Mar 8, 2005 7:21AM PST

Hi there

I recently bought a Powershot A75. From the moment I got it opened and installed the software, I've experienced difficulties in uploading images from the camera.

What happens is that the USB port will not recognize the camera. It will either say that no camera was found or that the USB device is not recognized.

The kicker is that this happens randomly. Some days it will work fine and other days I get this problem. I haven't changed anything to my knowledge, other USB devices seem to work as expected. I'm at my wits end!

help!

Are you sure there is no spyware?

Do you have InCD installed?

Are the USB drivers up todate? (Help at http://www.usbman.com )

Do you always use that port that works? Hint: Some find only certain ports work on their machine. I am not offering to help you fix this issue.

And some cameras require that you power up the camera prior to connection or that the camera be in some MODE. You can't imagine how many never notice that.

What is is inCD?

I have the drivers updated, both for the camera and the port.

Both ports work - my printer and mp3 player both work fine.

InCD is part of Nero CD recording.

And strangely is being implicated with such issues.

Another one is Norton's removable drive scanning. But you didn't note if you had such. Details matter...

I do have Nero CD recording on my computer...

I don't think I have Norton's removable drive scanning.

I have run adaware 6.0 and spybot as well.

Since you Nero, then try it without InCD...

I can't explain why we're seeing this, but we uninstall InCD and some cameras wake up and play.

I meant to comment more about ports that work and such. Some will declare that the ports work with other devices and think that's good enough. Again, I an not offering to help you fix the issue that some have found.

The issue is that a few people find that the back ports work with the device in question and the front doens't, but both ports work with some printer or other device. This can confound the best of us but my advice is ...

Make a mental or sticky note about such behaviour and go with what works.

I have tried it in both ports, it doesn't work in either.

I have made sure it is switched to right position.

And there doesn't seem to be a pattern that is consistent. I've tried it with full/somewhat drained batteries, ive tried uninstalling/reinstalling. It just keeps being random, although in the past week it has completely stopped being read as "no camera found" or unkown device connected to usb port.
