Canon powershot A610 "Please help"

Feb 23, 2010 5:44AM PST

For some reason my camera viewfinder screen will not show anything except my settings, neither B-4 I shoot or after on review. The light blinks stating trouble focusing as well. My batteries are fully charged and I cleaned all the terminals. Any suggestions will be appreciated. The camera is about 5 yrs and only about 300 pics taken. I've reformatted my card also and no luck.
Thanks in advance, Howard

I suggest you do a "Reset"

You may have inadvertently set something that is keeping the LCD set to Menu.

Here is how you do a Reset:
Look in the User Guide (Advanced).
At the back of the User Guide you will find an Index.
Look for "Reset All".
Perform the Reset All and it will reset the camera to the factory settings.

I tried and to no avail, checked my card on the computer after taking a couple shots and nothing. Do you think it could be the card?
That's about the only thing I've not done. I think I mentioned that my out of focus (small lower light along side of viewfinder blinks yellow)
It almost seems as though a terminal is not doing its job or something of the sort maybe.
Thanks for responding I really appreciate the info.

"Checked my card on the computer after taking a couple shots and nothing"

I assume that means you can not take a picture..

It does not sound like a card problem.
But I would try a different card anyway.

I assume you are not using a card that has a capacity larger than 2 gig.
The A610 is not compatible with SDHC cards.

It looks like something inside the camera is wrong.
I suggest you phone Canon Service.
Do not eMail them .. telephone them.

They have a check list for various problems.
Give them a crack at the problem, and see what they say.

Thanks for your help, I'll post my response from Canon. However, I'll have to try and find a receipt as to when I bought it, somewhere about 4-5 yrs ago I'm thinking.
Thanks again, Howard
