canon power shot digital elph SD1100IS vs SD1000IS

I am trying to decide between these two cameras. The only difference I can find is that model SD1100IS has image stabilization and SD 1000IS does not. The price difference is about $100.00. Is having image stabilization worth the extra expense? Thanks for your help.

it's easy

The SD1000 is the older model and the SD1100 is the newer one so they added in IS. The SD1000 should be cheaper.

IS technology.

The IS stands for Canon's "Image Stablization" technology.

SD1000 vs SD1100 IS

In reply to: canon power shot digital elph SD1100IS vs SD1000IS

SD1100 has an 8MP sensor vs a 7.1 in the SD1000

The 1100 offers IS where the 1000 does not.

It is not an "automatic" though.

The SD1100 has a longer shutter lag than the predecessor

The 1100 recycle time is much slower than the 1000.

The SD1100 was rated lower on Cnet than the SD1000.

Normally, and especially with these "ultra compact" camera I always say to go with the IS model because hand shake is almost inevitable due to the lousy ergonomics of shooting with them. But in this case, it is closer to a toss up to me.

I bought my girlfriend the sd1000 for about 170 and it works great. She loves it. If you really want a pink camera go with the sd1100, but otherwise save your $100 and buy the sd1000. Pictures will probably look identical between the two to the untrained eye anyway.
