You didn't say what the Panasonic 'version' is.
I can tell you that the XH-G1 is a professional level camera that has many powerful capabilities. You certainly will not go wrong with it if you know how to use it. However, I am wondering why you are looking at the XH-G1 rather than the XL-H1. The H1 costs a bit more, but not that much more. It brings the ability to change lenses to the table. That means SLR lenses on a video camera with all the functionality that adds to the camera.
I just saw this canon HDV camcorder, but have been told that the Panasonic version is possibly better. Does anyone have any solid information to share? Here is the canon:
