Canon Optura 50 vs. Panasonic PV-GS150

Jan 8, 2006 1:32PM PST

I am having a difficult time determining which camcorder to purchase. I have never owned a camcorder before but have a baby on the way and want one for family videos. I am leaning toward the Canon Optura 50. I am debating over the Panasonic GS150 as well. Anyone have any advice? Are there other camcorders in this price range you would suggest or is the Canon optura 50 the best bang for the buck in this price category?

Thanks for any advice you can give!!

My advice to you as a propective parent is that the Panasonic would be the better solution, especially if you use a tripod. The Canon loads tape from below whereas the Panasonic loads from up top. I've had both brands and I found the Panasonic MiniDV camcorders have very reliable. The Firewire output works great to your computer for transfer and editing. Good luck.

I confused the Optura 50 with my ZR200. The Optura loads from top where my ZR200 loads from below. Sorry about the confusion.
