Canon Optura 40 firewire connection problem to Mac

by rplotz / January 31, 2007 12:03 AM PST

I have a Canon Optura 40 and an Intel iMac. When connected by firewire, the computer does not see the camcorder, though the camcorder does say "DV In." Same problem connecting to 2 other Macs. I've changed firewire cables but it's no different. Other firewire devices work. Canon says it's not a Canon problem because of the "DV In." This used to work.

Sounds like the camcorder needs repair. These ports can be "blown" so off to the repair shop.

I might have a solution for you. But you have a mac so i don't no if it will solve your problem. is your fiirewire port in the front panel of the computer or is it in the back? My oproblem was that my firewire would not work from the front panel and it would say dv in. But it would work in the back of the pc. And the manual does say not to plug in the cable while the camera is on or you may burn out the port.
