Question

Canon MG 5220 Printer/Scanner

Oct 12, 2014 6:32AM PDT

I have a home network with the Canon MG 5220 printer installed and the printer works fine from either computer. I have the computer hooked up with USB. I cannot get the Scanner to work the MP Navigator from the remote computer. The message says that it is not installed or hooked up correctly. The scanner works fine from the computer it is installed on. Both computers running Windows 7 and 64 bit.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Answer
Sounds right.

Almost all scanners don't operate over the network. My Canon wireless printer is different since it's on the network and not on USB. As it stands, I think it's doing as much as it can on USB.

Canon was unclear about this.

I may not get it right either but if you are scanning and it's on USB, then you can only scan to your PC that is on that USB cable.

if you are on WiFi then you can scan at the printer using the methods there. And of course there are more hurdles to leap over such as firewalls in today's routers which they chat about.

So it may scan if I hook up by WIFI. I realize the firewall could be a problem also.

Thanks

Let me share how I scan most of the time.

I keep some USB memory stick handy then take that to the scanner and scan to the usb memory stick. Pretty easy and always works.

Thanks, that is the way I have been doing my work, just wondering if there was another way.

You can see why I just use the stick.

Even with the network wifi connection you have to go to the scanner to scan to the PC. On USB you use the scan software so sort of messy. That is, I've yet to find any company deliver a truly clean method or procedure.

Thanks. I guess I will keep doing what I and you have been doing.
