Question

Canon MD215 Tape compartment makes a noise

Apr 4, 2013 11:48PM PDT

Hello

As you can see in this youtube link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_QL8zWRReJ0
It makes a noise which only happens when it has a tape in it. It does not make a noise when the compartment is empty and it records just fine.

What could be the cause of it? It's quite old so no warrenty help or anything like that, i've also tried different tapes and stilll it makes a noise.

Should I try to dismantle it?

Don't fix things that work.

Moving parts can make noise and tape transports can do that. I've seen folk create more trouble with cleaning and lubrication of such so my advice is to use the usual rubber bulb air duster and ignore it.

The thing is, the noise comes from the inside of the cam recorder, not the tape compartment. I've tried manually turning the tape transport (assuming you mean the knobs that turn the actual tape around) around and it makes no noise. And I doubt it is dirty but i'll have a looksie and see if cleaning it solves it.
