When I opened the a810n case I found the heat sink from the Asus K8S-La MB for the Sis 760 support chip lying in the bottom of the case.

I acquired some 2part heat sink glue and re-attached it(hope I got the layer thin enough as it setup like any other epoxy). ~12 hrs later I reconnected the machine and it ran O.K but within 24hrs it was back to it's old ways. I was able to copy "My documents" and do a MozBackup to the 16GB flash drive I bought and succeeded in getting it all onto her new Vaio laptop with Tbird 3.1 (which incidentally I was unable to install successfully on my own AIIx2 Vista machine)
I'm going to try a recover process but I'm guessing the Sis 760 may have been fatally damaged so If I intend to resurrect the a810n, I'll have to get a new motherboard, rare as they seem to be.
I had my old Canoscan Lide 30 scanner setup on my wife's HP a810n, A64 Win XP tower. It's been dying for a couple of weeks. We decided to replace it as it's 6 y/o. We purchased a Sony Vaio VPCEE25FX/BI with an 2.1GHZ AIIx2,4GB DDR31066, a Blu-ray playing DVD R drive, and Win 7 home Premium 64 bit. Is it possible to load the software and drivers as x86 programs since Canon never generated drivers for the Lide 30 for Vista 64bit nor Win 7? Were it either a Lide 20 or Lide 35 I'd be home free. Go figure. I had purchased a Lide 200 for my own AIIx2 desktop when I discovered no Vista 64 bit compatible software or drivers were available for my Lide 30 ~ 2yrs ago. That's when I installed it on her machine. I'd always been happy with the Lide 30 performance and was overjoyed with the Lide 200.
