canon iP4500 Printer

For the first time since new my printer has sent a message that my cartridge 8BK CLI 8BK is empty. When I take a look the flashing light is against 5PGBK which does appear to be empty, no swishing to my ear. As there are 2 black cartridges why does the printer not switch from empty cartridge to full cartridge. Otherwise what is the purpose of 2 black.

I'm running into folk that are upset over replacing ink cartridges. It doesn't really matter why it doesn't switch but if that's a DESIGN FLAW in your view, call up and ask for a refund then start your research into printers and be sure that this feature is on your list.

Hopefully a new cartridge will let you print.

There are reasons that a printer will not drain cartridges absolutely dry. Think carefully why.
