Canon HG20 Problem with recording

Hello everyone

My Canon HG20 is giving me some trouble. I fired it up yesterday after a month or so and the recording function does not want to work when I am in record mode and press the record or play/start buttons. All that happens is on the LCD in the top right hand corner the HDD time status just continuously flashes and does not want to stop, simultaneously the access/charge light flashes with it in tandem. I tried my memory card and the same issue. Also in review mode for videos, it reads the hard drive and states "no movies" which is right, and starts to read the hard drive again and continuosly cycles through this process. In photo review mode it reads once and states no photos and does not cycle like this.
I tested the Hard drive in still photo mode and that works fine with writing to the hard drive, so the hard drive cannot be shot. I have also done a full initialisation of the camera and the reset but still no luck. Please can someone help. Thanks

Faulty Battery?

In reply to: Canon HG20 Problem with recording

After calling CANON twice - first time they said it was shot/done and i can trade it in because i'm a loyal customer for a refurbished HF version. For my camera and an additional $400...yeah, no thank you.

Second time I called and a different technician ruled out the HDD failing (as you have noted above) because I can take pictures. Then he thought that it could be a faulty record button and recommended to record with the remote or start/stop on the LCD flip screen. Still didn't work.

So deciding to finally read the manual (top of page 104) "The CHG (charge) indicator flashes rapidly" Charging has stopped because the compact power adapter or the battery pack is faulty. Consult a Canon Service Center."

So where I am at right now is getting a new battery pack with the "Intelligent Li-ion Battery" mark because of what the manual says about batteries on page 118 (middle right)

Brahmin - hope you're still tracking this thread, if not I hope this works for the next person because I couldn't find anything online on this topic but this here post of yours.

Will update if the new battery works.
