Canon HG20 camcorder help

Jul 8, 2009 1:49AM PDT

I currently own a HD (AVCHD) Canon HG20 with 60gb HDD . I bought this in October and (I know I know dont reprimand me..) just last month tried to take all of my video off. This was VERY important video of my family from October to May. Ok lesson learned.. The hard drive was corrupt and ALL of my data was lost. After I cried for a few days straight I tried sending the camera to data recovery companies who all said they couldnt recover a thing. Canon replaced the hard drive since it was still under warranty but this experience has left me very leary..
I am considering a new camcorder with different media other than HDD.
If someone could please answer some questions for me??

I still want an HD camcorder.
This will be played back on a blu ray player so do I want AVCHD? or does that matter?
Is recording to flash media the best option for me?
How much record time will I get on a card if Im recording in the very best HD I can?
Is recording to miniDV tapes the best option?
Please keep in mind I'm looking for the very best quality I can get.
I was considering the Canon HF S100 with flash media.

Thanks SO much for your help!!

recording medium etc

I have a hf200 - it only records to a SDHC card - compact and very light - a 16GB card gives up to 90 mins recording - sufficient for my needs - then easy peasy I slip it into my PC and download for editing - I don't know about Bluray format requirements - but the video files as downloaded work directly in Win7 - not Vista however.
