Canon G9 upgrade?

I would like to venture into a SLR from a Canon G9. I want GREAT photos, easy to understand directions, Optical Viewer, Video capabilities, and not too large.

Can anyone recommend a Canon or other camera that might fill the bill?

DSLR

A GREAT photo, depends upon the talents/abilities of the person holding the camera.

Most people buy a DSLR based on price, because they are all very capable cameras.

Looking at the Canon DSLR cameras and prices below $1,000 you have three choices.

500D, Rebel T1i - $600
550D, Rebel T2i - $850
60D - $999

The Rebels are slightly smaller and lighter.
All have video capabilities, Optical Viewfinder, and 3 inch Live View LCD.
