Canon FS10 DVD burning help

Hey all,
First post, let's see what happens. I just recently purchased a Canon FS 10 flash memory camcorder and used it on my Colorado trip this summer. All I want to do with the video files is burn them to DVD so I can show it to my parents, etc.. Now I know about Canon's proprietary file name that is probably the issue. I have tried several different DVD creating programs that all gave me error messages. I am not a huge video editor or anything, I just want to be able to watch the DVD. What do I need to do? Convert file names? Get a new video editing program? Suck it up and buy Canon's DVD burner? I have tried and failed with WinVideo, Nero, Roxio, Windows movie maker, and some other cheesy program my parents had (can not remember the name) Of course everything I tried is an older version. Any help would be extremely great!
