RE DVD camcorders....
May 20, 2006 2:30PM PDT

I do want it to be good in low light, since a lot of family shots will be done indoors! also ease of use and compact size...i am confused as to why some people are saying the sony 403 is still better than the 405?

Sony would be better

Either the Sony 403 or 405 are good. The 403 is just a year older. Cant find any difference. Good luck.

DVR-403 Toggle Switch issues,
Dec 30, 2007 12:23PM PST

Within a year of buying this model, coddling it with care, and as Murphy's law would have it, shortly after the 1 year warranty expired, the toggle switch that alternates between video, audio, and download mode, failed to work - it still allows video recording but no stills or downloading. SONY, of course, would like more than half the price I paid for it in Jan 2006 (through NEWEGG), plus anything additionally if required, to have it fixed. I have held on to it for 6 months now after getting a repair request filed with SONY. Having checked this forum just today, I wanted to ask if anyone else has had this problem and how if at all they had it fixed. I am not keen on paying the money to get it repaired and would rather invest in a better MORE RELIABLE camera than this. Would calling the 800 number for SONY recommended in another post work?
And to those that are considering this or other models of SONY, you may want to consider getting a 3-5 year warranty.
