A battery charger like you find at the usual stores if you don't want to charge in the camera. When reaching for the lower prices you gotta toss out parts.
As to reliability, some of that has to do with the end user. Many will bake the device in a car, leave tapes in the device, drop and other not go good things. No one can tell you how long such a thing lasts since it won't matter to you my camcorder is years old if yours quits in a year.

I'm thinking about buying a Canon Elura 100 and I'm just wondering about their reliability.
This might be a hard question to answer because they haven't been on the market for too long but,I'm guessing that the earlier models of the Elura line would be a good indicator of their reliability.
I'm asking because I'm wondering if buying the extended warranty is worth it.
I'm thinking about buying from Future Shop,(Canadian version of Best Buy)and the extra warranty is almost $300 CDN.
Also, I was told that with the Elura 100, to recharge the battery, the entire camcorder has to be plugged in to do the recharging. Can't recharge the battery alone like you can for a digital camera. Is that the case?
Thanks
