Canon Camcorder for Safari?

Jun 7, 2009 1:32AM PDT

Any/all suggestions welcome. I am looking for a camcorder under $500 to take with me on safari to Africa. Optical zoom is important b/c I want to be able to record from a distance. As of now, I am looking at the Canon FS21 or FS100. They both have a 37X optical zoom and appear to be all around good cameras.

Between the two cameras (other than internal memory) is there any real difference?

Finally, does anyone have any recommendations for a non-Canon camcorder they feel would better suit my needs?

Thanks in advance.
