Canon A95 and error 18

Oct 15, 2004 2:30AM PDT

My 1 1/2 year old Canon A40 just died with an error 18 lens problem. Repair cost of $150 is more than the camera's worth. In searching for a new camera, I just can't find anything else with the features of the Canons. I want to stay with Compact flash cards, and I like the flexibility of using AA batteries. Anyone have any experience with the new Canon A95 and error codes? I'm thinking of buying it and purchasing a three year warranty. Am I crazy? Is there something comparable out there?

About flash cards.

I bit the bullet and changed to SD cards since it was time. I know I paid dearly for those cards, but I find 256MB SD cards (generics) for under 30 bucks.

Also, the camera doesn't have to be as big to hold the card...

Canon's "A" series of cameras have been their best selling cameras for several years. None of the other camera makers have been able to rival Canon's "A" series.

Nikon has two cameras (4300 and 4500) that were introduced in 2002 that were on the mark but did not outsell Canon. Nikon has not followed up with newer versions of those cameras.
