Canon A75 vs Nikon Coolpix 3200 - opinions wanted

Nov 6, 2004 7:19PM PST

I am looking for a 3-3.2 pixel camera. I would prefer a lightweight one but will sacrifice this feature for a high quality product under $200.
All the reviews I've been reading really highlight the Canon A75 and the Nikon Coolpix 3200.
As suggested, I will go into the larger stores and "test-drive" these models first, but any further opinions would be most appreciated.

Both cameras will produce excellent photos.

There is one big fundamental difference between the two cameras:

The 3200 is a point-and-shoot camera with some scene modes to let the photographer control some special situations.

The A75 is an intermediate camera with scene modes and manual over-ride of most fuctions of the camera.
It can operate as a point-and-shoot or as a more advanced camera.

Someone interested in just taking photos and not wanting to get more involved with photographic details will be happy with the 3200.

Someone wanting to be able to control special photo situations, now or in the future, will want the A75.
